On June 14, Caffi Soar in Merthyr will host a special cultural afternoon celebrating the voices of poets and musicians from Ukraine and Wales. The event, titled Beirdd o Wcráin / Poets from Ukraine & Beirdd o Gymru / Poets from Wales, promises a powerful blend of verse, music, and cross-cultural exchange.

The Welsh contingent includes the renowned Red Poets collective, with performances by jazz artist Sian Roberts, guitarist Al Jones, and poet Mike Jenkins. From Ukraine, featured poets Kostiantyn Kozlov, Lietta, Olesia Miftahova, and Uliana Gulvanska—many of whom combine poetry with music—will share their work, reflecting on identity, resilience, and the shared language of creativity.

The event also includes live music by Barry Taylor and vocal performances by Ukrainian singers. An open mic session on related themes will provide space for audience members to contribute their own voices.
